What sets this certification apart
It’s very traditional in its approach to teaching and practicing yoga. That means it focuses on much more then asana practice! We will delve deep into the practices and teachings found in ancient texts like the Vedas, Yoga Sutras and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. These practices and teachings have stood the test of time and are truly immortal.
Since you are becoming certified to teach yoga, practice teaching is a big part of this training. Getting comfortable clearly expressing what you want students to do is important in becoming a good teacher. Learning to both carefully observe students and help them make adjustments in their practice to create more balance, ease, strength, and proper alignment is essential for a teacher. Just as we know the value of practicing asana, practicing teaching is a critical part of you finishing this certification confident in your ability to teach in your community. There is a big difference between being able to practice asana yourself and effectively teach a class! A conscientious, enthusiastic, coachable student, typically makes a good teacher!
We will focus on how we can use yoga to positively impact our lives and create a richer, more meaningful experience of balance, vitality, and peace by including the deeper practices of pranayama, meditation, chanting, mantra and ceremony. If you just want to deepen your own understanding of yoga and enhance your personal practice, you are welcome to dive in with less focus on actually teaching.
We will go, as a group, and experience a Vedic Fire Ceremony called a Maha Maha Yajnam with Sri Karunamayi Amma, in Forsythe, Georgia. This involves travel to and one night spent in Georgia. Amma, which means mother, is a Guru and performs these authentic ceremonies all over the world for world peace and to transform human consciousness. It is very auspicious simply to be in her presence. We will also attend an event with the Hugging Saint, also called Amma. We will either go to Atlanta, GA. or Washington DC for this event. She is also a Guru and travels all over the world hugging people. We will decide as a group about transportation and accommodations.
A basic understanding of yoga’s sister science, Ayurveda, is given in this certification. The idea is to be able to use these two paths to support each other and understand how we are creating imbalances and what to do to address them. We will carefully look at your diet as a way to purify the body and create more balance and harmony in your life.
The class size is no more then 8 students to create an intimate experience of support and individual attention, lots of sharing, and an opportunity to experience the deep bonds that develop from this shared experience. We will also begin a deeper exploration of the Mother Consciousness and how to develop a more expansive awareness of it in healing ourselves and our lives.
